15th February 2019

The NUTAF/NUTASA BOT has received with great concern, news of the vote of no confidence passed on Mr. Benjamin I. Ogbonna as President of NUTASA by his Exco members that attended the NUTASA meeting of 9th-11th February 2019 held at the University of Abuja, and his impeachment accordingly. BOT was shocked to receive news of this unfortunate incidence first from Mr. Benjamin Ogbonna himself via Whatsapp message to the Chairman of BOT on 11th February 2019 as follows:

“[11/02, 11:45] NUTASA Pres Benjamin: Sir I wish to bring to your notice that I was impeached during the meeting… Before you hear it elsewhere… I’m so sorry I failed you.  I’m so sorry I failed your dreams. But I have been misunderstood sir. Please give me a chance to prove my good worth for what you believe in sir… A great NUTASA. A greater NUTAF. A  willing set of students who are good in the field. Please sir, when do I come to see you at least before the meeting of NANTAP is made public, I want to be part of this great opportunity to take NUTAF to greater heights.:
I’m so sorry I failed your dreams”

Subsequently, BOT received from the Secretary-General of NUTASA, a formal report on the impeachment of Mr. Ogbonna by his colleagues for what they termed gross abuse of office.

While BOT notes the attempt by Mr. Ogbonna to get the BOT and other ExNUTASITES to intervene in his favour through overt and covert means, including his recent Press Release evidently aimed at smearing the image of the BOT and inciting NUTASITES against the Board, BOT wishes to state categorically that it will always maintain its long established policy of non-interference in the day-to-day running of NUTASA.

We urge Mr. Ogbonna to desist from his ongoing smear campaigns and answer to the questions bothering on abuse of office raised by his colleagues in the Executive. Furthermore, the BOT enjoins NUTASA to put its house in order as NUTASA is bigger than any individual. BOT looks forward to working with NUTASA continually for the upliftment and progress of the Association and NUTAF.

Meanwhile all National Vice Presidents of NUTASA are to note that a roundtable of NUTAF stakeholders shall hold in Lagos soon after the National elections to receive reports on the plan for successful hosting of NUTAF 2019 in Lagos as approved by the November 2018 NUTAF stakeholders meeting attended by NUTASA Exco, BOT and Presidents of SONTA, NANTAP and ITI  in Keffi. As soon as the date for the roundtable is firmed up, NVPs and Staff Advisers of institutions that were at NUTAF 2017 and 2018 will receive invitation letters through their Heads of Department, as is the practice.

Thank you.

Victor Nwokocha
